Around the rim of the soles, Shadow's shoes have red strips of metal on the rear and front of the bottom, broken below the in-steps. Above the topline, each shoe has a long red tongue and black cuff encircled by a single golden ring band. His shoes are mainly white and smooth with black heel regions. Shadow's attire includes white gloves with red backs which have long red and black cuffs with fasteners and golden ring bands around his wrists.
He also has a single cowlick-like spike that sticks out from underneath each of the top side quills on his head. He has red stripes on each of his head quills, around the edges of his eyes, and on his arms and legs. He also has six quills on his head, four of which curve upwards while the other two curve downwards, two spines on his back, and a small tail.

He has red eyes, a small patch of white fur on his chest, a tan-skinned muzzle, and tan-skinned ear canals. Like Sonic, Shadow is rather slim with relatively long arms and legs and pronounced shoulders that give him a tall and slightly lanky appearance unlike Sonic, however, Shadow appears to be more barrel-chested with broad shoulders.
In Sonic X, the Light Speed Dash is used by Sonic to attack Eggman's robot in Desperatly Seeking Sonic and later, Chris uses a move on the Hyper Tornado called Ring Tunnel that uses the Light Speed Dash to create a magnetic field.Shadow is a black-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog. Also, the button required to perform the move is shown. The Light Speed Dash returns in Sonic Generations as one of Modern Sonic's normal abilities however, it can only be performed near certain ring paths, which are surrounded by a clearly discernible ripple effect. However, it is only useable while under the effects of Green Hover. The Light Speed Dash once again appears in Sonic Colors. Both characters can buy these items at the shop in Soleanna. The move is required to reach the first stage as Sonic. In Sonic the Hedgehog, both Sonic and Shadow can gain the ability to perform the Light Speed Dash by collecting the Light Chip (Sonic) and Air Chip (Shadow). Additionally, in said game, the second action button (X on Gamecube) is used, instead of the first (B on Gamecube). In Shadow the Hedgehog, any rings that are accidentally collected prior to the Dash turn clear, and can still be dashed across.

Sonic also no longer Spin Dashes and just simply dashes along the trail.īoth characters can upgrade to the Light Speed Attack by collecting the Ancient Light.īoth Sonic and Shadow have access to the Light Speed Dash from the beginning of the game. Curiously, from this game and onward, the Light Dash is capable of damaging foes in the middle of a ring path and not just items. Sonic has to approach a trail of rings and press the action button as opposed to charging. The Air Shoes can be found in White Jungle. Shadow must collect the Air Shoes to perform the same move. Sonic accesses the move when he, again, collects the Light Speed Shoes, which are found in the Metal Harbor stage. In Sonic Adventure 2, the Light Speed Dash is available to both Sonic (in the Hero story) and Shadow (in the Dark story).
